Hi -- Kit here.
The nice lady v-e-t called my mom late today with the results of my thyroid test. It is slightly elevated. The nice lady v-e-t does not know whether that slight elevation is enough to explain why I have lost so much weight, so I am having an ultrasound tomorrow. Another lady v-e-t is going to do that for me. I don't get to have any breakfast!
Speaking of food, tonight my mom gave us a new brand of food -- Weruva. She said she wanted to find something to whet my appetite. Boy, did it ever! I loved it!
I am going to have to take medicine for my thyroid, no matter what the ultrasound says. I am going to get it in the form of a chewy treat. Hopefully I will like it, because neither my mom nor I want to deal with pills. I am a really tough cat to pill, if I may say so myself! I may be small, but I'm strong!
Thanks for all the purrs and purrayers so far, my mom and I really appreciate them. If you could keep them going for the ultrasound, we would really appreciate it!
Here is a picture of me with my head in a food bag. As you can see, I do like to eat! Hopefully tomorrow we will figure out why I have lost so much weight and what we can do about it.

Hi Kit-Kat, I am purring my VERY hardest for you! Some of our Kitties Who Came Before had thyroid problems and once they had meds they gotted all better. I am going to purr that that is the ONLY problem you have, sweet furriend!
We love the picture of you inspecting the inside of the food bag. We're sorry you have to start taking thyroid medicine, but if it makes you feel better is is well worth it. We are purring for good results from your ultrasound.

Our loudest purrs to you, Athena. Others probably already have written this, but you can get the transdermal gel for hyper-t meds (methimazole). We suggest your mom research hyper-t and methimazole, and there's a great Yahoo support group too, for feline hyper-t. The mom was a member because our angel Annie had it.
Just remember one thing with those meds: START LOW. Seriously. LOW dose, and if your vet is giving you something high, don't trust your vet. Also seriously.
And of course follow up with liver function, because methimazole can affect that, though Annie had no problems with her liver. Also watch the platelets in follow-up blood work. Annie's fell, which is common, but after a number of months her platelet values came back up to a more normal range for her.
The Admiral is hyper-t and so is Fin--those are two kitties we can think of off the top of our heads.
But if you qualify for the I-131 radiation treatment -- it's the only thing to cure hyper-t -- our mom recommends you go that route, budget permitting. She says that if she ever has a hyper-t cat again she'll find a way to get the 2+ hours to the closet clinic that does it and will find the $$$$ that's needed (very expensive in Canada and requires a 7 to 10 day stay by Canadian law, for the radiation levels -- most US states we've read about have a 3+ day stay with quarantine at home after).
Hyper-t is serious but can be managed well on meds, once the dose is regulated, at least in the short to medium term. Not sure about long term, because Annie never was the same after starting the meds--not sure if that was just Annie, or if it was the meds themselves or something else. We know the Admiral has had some health issues, but aren't sure if they're specific to the hyper-t, and we don't know about Fin--she seems to be okay.
Sending Light and purrs and keeping our paws crossed for you!
